What is a microinverter, and how is it different from a string inverter?
A microinverter is installed on one or several panels and converts DC to AC right at the panel. Each unit has its own MPPT, so a shaded or dirty panel does not pull down the whole string, unlike a string inverter, which connects many panels in one series.
How many panels can connect to one microinverter?
It depends on the series. HiFlow Pro 300 to 500 for 1 panel, HMS-600 to 1000-2T for 2 panels, HMS-1600 to 2000-4T for 4 panels, and MIT-4000 to 5000-8T for 8 panels on 3-phase systems.
How do I monitor the electricity my solar panels produce?
The microinverters connect wirelessly (Sub-1G) to a DTU gateway, and the data is sent to S-Miles Cloud over Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G depending on the DTU model. You can view the data and alerts for each module remotely.
What is the difference between DTU-Lite-S, DTU-WLite-S and DTU-Pro-S?
DTU-Lite-S and DTU-WLite-S connect to the cloud over Wi-Fi and suit residential systems. DTU-Pro-S can connect over Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 4G. DTU-Lite-S and DTU-Pro-S monitor up to 99 panels with a range of up to 400 m in open space.
Are there microinverters with built-in Wi-Fi?
Yes. The HMS-W series (for example HMS-600W to 1000W-2T and HMS-1600DW to 2000DW-4T) and HiFlow Pro have built-in Wi-Fi, so data can be monitored without an extra DTU on the models that list it.
What does plug and play mean?
With the Flex-S3 (HMS series) or Flex-T5 (MIT series) cable system, microinverters can be connected without complicated wiring. The manufacturer states that installation time drops by up to 70%. Installation should still be done by an installer.
Is there battery storage for a system that is already installed?
HiBattery 4020 AC and HiBattery 1920 AC are AC-coupled, so they can be added to an existing solar system. HiBattery 4020 X supports both DC and AC. The HiBattery series uses a matching HMeter.
